Feed Back on my Pitch

I presented my Pitch the the other members if my group and this is the feed back i was given:

What went well in my treatment:

  • Lots of detail about costumes and narrative of the story line.
  • All relevant and linked to research.
What was bad about the treatment:

  • Didn't talk enough about all the characters , only went into detail about the main character.

What was good about the script:

  • Included aspects from other sitcoms, could tell it was a sitcom.
What was bad about the script:

  • Mention all the characters more instead of just the main characters.
What was good about the mood board:
  • All related to sitcoms
What was bad about the mood board:
  • More colour
  • More about the costumes of the characters.

Summary:
Therefore i need to talk more about all my characters and not just the main character of the sitcom, and also the costumes in which my other characters will wear.

Group storyboard formula

As a group we created a mind map , of all the most commonly used camera shots used in sitcoms. We put our research together and found these common patterns.

The first shot used in all 4 of the sitcoms was an establishing shot , of the location , interior and exterior. The shot included the main character of the show , and focused on this character with a MS ( medium close up) or   LS (long shot). Also followed by the camera then panning.
Therefore we will start our sitcom with an Establishing shot of the location , which will include our main character , by using a MS or LS, by doing this we will stick to the codes and conventions of a sitcom.

We also noticed a lot  of shot-reverse-shots used within our sitcoms , when two characters are speaking to each other. They uses closes up of the characters face , or a medium shot to allow the audience to view the reactions of the characters which helped to add comedy as the audience may find the characters reaction funny. Therefore from this research we we used shot-reverse-shot in our sitcom when the characters are speaking , so we stick to the patterns of a sitcom , allowing the notice to identify the programme as a sitcom.

The second shot used after the Establishing shot was a Medium shot or a Long shot which introduce more characters. Therefore our second shot should be a MS or LS to introduce more characters to the audience.

Summary of groups research into Secondary product research

Charlotte Maguire:
I research through a lot of books about the codes and conventions of a sitcom , by doing this i found out, the same codes happen at the end of each Sitcom, the Narrative comes together as the conflict is resolved. Leaving the audience happy that everything has worked out fine. This happens at the end of every Sitcom so that a new narrative can begin next episode. Our story line must include a Equilibrium, Disruption, Recognition of Disruption, Attempt to Repair and New/return to Equilibrium. To show the genre of our programme to be a Sitcom. So by doing this our sitcom can follow the correct narrative and conventions , as well as giving the group a little extra information into sitcoms.

Geogrie field:
http://mediageorgie.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/secondary-existing-product-research.html
Geogrie researched into what it good and bad on websites. From her research she found out that webpages look most effect when they have the simplest of elements on it , and that sometimes less is more. This will be a great help when creating our webpages , helping us to create the best we can.

Louis Brown:
http://medialois.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/wordpress-tutorial-videos.html
Louis researched into secondary existing products , as she looked how to create a webpage on word-press  She looked at tutorials into making a webpages, in which told her step by step how to create a webpage , which will help us when we come to create our webpage for our sitcom.

Summary into group Primary Product research

Charley Maguire
i looked at the narrative of four episodes and found the codes nd conventions and narravtives which happened in all 4 sitcoms. Therefore i found out the same codes happen at the end of each Sitcom, the Narrative comes together as the conflict is resolved. Leaving the audience happy that everything has worked out fine. This happens at the end of every Sitcom so that a new narrative can begin next episode. The main pattern within the four sitcoms is there are 'work sitcoms' showing their are more popular to the audience. Our story line must include a Equilibrium, Disruption, Recognition of Disruption, Attempt to Repair and New/return to Equilibrium. To show the genre of our programme to be a Sitcom. Showing Todorov narrative structure to be correct .

Geogrie Field:
http://mediageorgie.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/primary-existing-products-research.html Geogrie analysed sitcom websites and we also need to create a 3 page fan site. Analysing the semiotic's of the E4 webpage. From this she found out the aspects needed in a webpage to target our audience , through images , colour and language used. This will therefore be a great help when creating a webpage.

Louis Brown:
http://medialois.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/secondary-research-friday-night-dinner.html
Louis looked into the Textual analysis of Friday Night Dinner. Where she looked into the Mise En Scene within the sitcom , and also the codes and conventions used. This will help massively when we come to produce our own sitcom.

Sam Evans:
http://media-samo.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/analysis-of-website.html Sam researched into existing products and looked at the interactive elements that are included in a webpage. Find out that websites use games as interactive elements in their website. As well as chances to watch behide the scene clips of the programmes. Allowing the audience to get more involved within the show. Such as his example he used for fresh meat website , in which their allowed the audience to watch interviews with the stars of the show , by doing this it attracts more viewers , this is something we can incorporate into our website pages.

Summary of whole groups work on Secondary Audience research

Charlotte Maguire:
For this i researched and collected the viewing figures for 4 sitcoms in which the group had analysed, by doing this i found out which sitcoms were most popular. From my research it shows that the most popular programmes are the inbetweener’s and IT crowd. I found out this was to do with the target audience as inbetweeners is shown on E4 , their target audience being 15-35, and this programme is about teenagers , and the target audience watching is many teenagers , therefore its important what channel you show your programme on and the target audience who watch then channel , having a big impact on your viewing figures. This is something we need to think about when creating our own programme, and also this that it must fit with the E4 target audience age. As all for these concepts affects the viewing figures.

Geogrie Field:
http://mediageorgie.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/secondary-research-social-networking.html Geogrie researched into the audience views and comments on social networking websites and IMDB. she found out the target audiences of two E4 sitcoms and learnt what the general views from the audience. She also found out how fan pages find out what the audience think of specific characters through asking questions, therefore by her doing this research it will help when coming to create our sitcom characters as well a website.

Louis Brown:
http://medialois.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/results-from-secondary-research-on.html
Louis looked at reviews of sitcoms. she found out some interesting stuff by doing this such as the stereotypes within sitcoms help the audience to understand the story . Also people get bored of sitcoms all being the same such as the narratives and character , something we need to be careful about when creating ours. She also found out the jokes included need to be modern.

Summary of whole groups work for Primary Audience research

Primary Audience:

Charlotte Maguire:
Me and Sam both planned the focus group and split it into 2 sections. Section one being that with gave our 7 people taking part a question sheet , which had 7 questions on in which they had to fill out. The second section being we shown them 4 clips in which they answered questions about the clips they had watched. Therefore me and Sam split the results into 2, therefore my results are from the first sheet we gave them , which 7 questions. I display my results in graphs and then summarised the evidence I found. We asked a group of 7 teenagers as this fits in well with our target audience, we did this to find out what our audience want from a sitcom. I also filmed the focus group.

Geogrie Field:
http://mediageorgie.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/primary-research-questionnaire-results.html
Geogrie created surveys to find out what the target  audience like and dislike about sitcoms , she also found out what they would like in a new sitcom. By her doing this we were able to find out what audiences wanted. She then linked this to the codes and conventions of a sitcom.

Louis created a poll asking people what they like about sitcoms to be centered around. By doing this she was able to find out people like sitcoms to be based round friends. therefore this will help to group when creating of a narrative and also the characters involved.

Sam Evans:
Sam also created and held the focus group , he then analysed the second half of the questions we asked in the focus group. By doing this it helped the group to get a better understand of what the audience find funny , aswell as the narrative most popular with our target audience.
