Pre Production Planning : what each member of the group did

Charlotte Maguire:
For planning i completed:

  •   A photographic storyboard of each shot.
  • Location Reece
  • Off site Campus form
We Also all had roles to play in the production of the filming , My role is Director.

Geogrie Field:

Geogrie's role is Producer.

Louis Brown:

Louis's role is Website manger.

Sam Evans:

  • Sam made sure all the videos and sound were correctly updated on to the computer , ready for post production.
Sam's role is the sound man.

In pre-production we all had a go out filming , controlling sound and using the clapper board , all helping to contribute to our video.

pre-production:Off campus form

Even though we didn't go off campus , i felt it was best to fill out one of these forms so that we could get a better understanding off the health and safety issues we might face , and if so how serious they would be. This also links with the Location Reece sheet , as from this i was able to work out all health and safety issues we faced in all locations we filmed in.

pre-production: location reece

LOCATION RECCE
LEARNER NAME: Charlotte Maguire
PROJECT/ PRODUCTION TITLE: Relations

Production information:
·         Dates
·          Times
·          Brief description of the general content of production
·          equipment required
·         any additional requirements for production
·          any issue which may affect production in this location
We will start filming on the 10th December 2012.
Starting time will be from 9 am.
The production is a sitcom, set in a college, with 4 main college students, the main character is a girl called Emily and the audience view her everyday life and what she gets up to at college.
Equipment required: Nikon D3100 camera, Tripod, camera charger, microphone charger, script , storyboard , glide track , headphones , clapper board, first aid kit. We can find all of these things at the media centre in college, and the first aid kit we shall provide ourselves.
Additional requirements:
Costumes: however actors shall supply there own costumes, as it fits with the style of the character, the only costumes needed is star wars t-shirt in which I shall find , two pairs of glasses , hair gel , tracksuit bottoms , however these shall be very easy to find.
There are no issues as we have asked permission from the library to film in there and the rest is in outdoor spaces. The only issue may be the weather on the day of filming.

As we are filming in a public place we may have issues we members of the public walking through our shots , however this shall not effect our production to much as they are more then likely all going to be teenagers , so it will only add to the believability of our scene , however to prevent this from wrecking any of our scenes we shall speak to the near by people and kindly explain we are filming and could they try  their best not to be seen in the shot , or look at the camera.
Sound information:
·         Issues or potential problems(such as nearby unwanted noise)
·          sound test results
·         Additional/specific sound equipment required
We will check all area’s of filming and check all sounds near by , we are filming in a college where only the sound of students are most likely heard , and this fits in well with our sitcom , so background noise should not be a problem.
Sound equipment:
 Boom microphone, Rifle microphone
Power information:
·         how you will  supply power for equipment at this location?
By using power leads, and connecting them to the power supplies in college or make sure equipment is fully charged.
Access:
·         Permission granted
·         Booking confirmed
·         Public /private place
·         Issues which may affect access for production team or cast
·         How you will deal with potential issues

We are only filming two scenes inside the college, and we have asked the library and there have said its ok and have gave us permission to film inside. The second place is a class-room however we have asked a member of staff and they will book us a room to use.  Therefore there should be no issues which affect the production team and cast. If a member of our cast is ill we can easily find a new actor to step in, so this shall not be a problem.
We shall make sure everything is sorted before the 10th of December to save any problems and also the time of the cast we have chosen.
Possible hazards:
·         What are the potential problems? particularly considering weather if outdoor?
·         how you will avoid or respond to them?

Hazards: If the weather was to snow, as this could affect the continuity of our clip.
Therefore we must try and film all the same location scenes in one day, to prevent this problem. We shall work hard and quick as there are not many hours of day light in the winter.
Health and safety issues: After looking around college there are many health and safety signs to do with fires, therefore if I fire was to break out while filming, all members of cast and crew will be informed where to go, we shall all meet outside of the college in the front car park, in which we shall do a head count. The likelihood of this happening is (VUL) however we must still plan in case.
One of our scenes consists of the character Emily getting trapped in a door, so we shall take this scene very seriously and make sure no one is hurt in this scene, and will always have a first aid kit on hand.
Also when filming we will being using heavy equipment and cables which may fall on people, or cause people to trip. To prevent people from falling or getting harmed by the equipment, we shall inform all cast and crew before hand and be aware of the public around us. The likelihood of this happening is (p).
The severity of these hazards are negligible and not to dangerous to the public or crew.

I believe to the best of my knowledge that this location is suitable for this production.

Pre production Planning : Picture Storyboard (NEW)

For planning each group member were given tasks to complete to help complete all planning needed before filming, one of my jobs was to create a picture storyboard of  what each shot should look like, to check if any shots don't match or could be i proved.

We also created this as test shots for lighting to see if the lighting was high key or low key in the places we wished to shoot , we found most shots were high key , this is what we want to use , as our production is a Sitcom.

Final group script

Therefore after all 4 pitches as a group we discussed each of the scripts narratives and the characters which linked to our overall research into our choice genre, and as a group we decided we liked some of the story line from my script and also Georgie's script so we added parts of them together in our overall script. We also liked the stereotypes / characters used in mine and Georgie's script , so we added them to the chosen narrative to create an overall script.

However due to our two minute clip we wasn't able to use all of our script , therefore we used up to the line "ooo stop it.. geek man!" in which we will then finish the clip with the title of our show " Relations". We also made some changes to the script , such as we changed it so instead of it being set in a school , we set it in a college , making it more realistic as we were going to film in an actual college. And characters would wear own clothes. We also had to change one of our scene's in which Emily gets stuck in a door , to make it look more realistic , so instead she walks into a bin hurting her knee , therefore we changed the dialogue throughout our script.

This is our edited version of our script as we added in the camera angles we wanted to use of each clip:

Feed Back on my Pitch

I presented my Pitch the the other members if my group and this is the feed back i was given:

What went well in my treatment:

  • Lots of detail about costumes and narrative of the story line.
  • All relevant and linked to research.
What was bad about the treatment:

  • Didn't talk enough about all the characters , only went into detail about the main character.

What was good about the script:

  • Included aspects from other sitcoms, could tell it was a sitcom.
What was bad about the script:

  • Mention all the characters more instead of just the main characters.
What was good about the mood board:
  • All related to sitcoms
What was bad about the mood board:
  • More colour
  • More about the costumes of the characters.

Summary:
Therefore i need to talk more about all my characters and not just the main character of the sitcom, and also the costumes in which my other characters will wear.

Group storyboard formula

As a group we created a mind map , of all the most commonly used camera shots used in sitcoms. We put our research together and found these common patterns.

The first shot used in all 4 of the sitcoms was an establishing shot , of the location , interior and exterior. The shot included the main character of the show , and focused on this character with a MS ( medium close up) or   LS (long shot). Also followed by the camera then panning.
Therefore we will start our sitcom with an Establishing shot of the location , which will include our main character , by using a MS or LS, by doing this we will stick to the codes and conventions of a sitcom.

We also noticed a lot  of shot-reverse-shots used within our sitcoms , when two characters are speaking to each other. They uses closes up of the characters face , or a medium shot to allow the audience to view the reactions of the characters which helped to add comedy as the audience may find the characters reaction funny. Therefore from this research we we used shot-reverse-shot in our sitcom when the characters are speaking , so we stick to the patterns of a sitcom , allowing the notice to identify the programme as a sitcom.

The second shot used after the Establishing shot was a Medium shot or a Long shot which introduce more characters. Therefore our second shot should be a MS or LS to introduce more characters to the audience.

Summary of groups research into Secondary product research

Charlotte Maguire:
I research through a lot of books about the codes and conventions of a sitcom , by doing this i found out, the same codes happen at the end of each Sitcom, the Narrative comes together as the conflict is resolved. Leaving the audience happy that everything has worked out fine. This happens at the end of every Sitcom so that a new narrative can begin next episode. Our story line must include a Equilibrium, Disruption, Recognition of Disruption, Attempt to Repair and New/return to Equilibrium. To show the genre of our programme to be a Sitcom. So by doing this our sitcom can follow the correct narrative and conventions , as well as giving the group a little extra information into sitcoms.

Geogrie field:
http://mediageorgie.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/secondary-existing-product-research.html
Geogrie researched into what it good and bad on websites. From her research she found out that webpages look most effect when they have the simplest of elements on it , and that sometimes less is more. This will be a great help when creating our webpages , helping us to create the best we can.

Louis Brown:
http://medialois.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/wordpress-tutorial-videos.html
Louis researched into secondary existing products , as she looked how to create a webpage on word-press  She looked at tutorials into making a webpages, in which told her step by step how to create a webpage , which will help us when we come to create our webpage for our sitcom.

Sam Evans:

Summary into group Primary Product research

Charley Maguire
i looked at the narrative of four episodes and found the codes nd conventions and narravtives which happened in all 4 sitcoms. Therefore i found out the same codes happen at the end of each Sitcom, the Narrative comes together as the conflict is resolved. Leaving the audience happy that everything has worked out fine. This happens at the end of every Sitcom so that a new narrative can begin next episode. The main pattern within the four sitcoms is there are 'work sitcoms' showing their are more popular to the audience. Our story line must include a Equilibrium, Disruption, Recognition of Disruption, Attempt to Repair and New/return to Equilibrium. To show the genre of our programme to be a Sitcom. Showing Todorov narrative structure to be correct .

Geogrie Field:
http://mediageorgie.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/primary-existing-products-research.html Geogrie analysed sitcom websites and we also need to create a 3 page fan site. Analysing the semiotic's of the E4 webpage. From this she found out the aspects needed in a webpage to target our audience , through images , colour and language used. This will therefore be a great help when creating a webpage.

Louis Brown:
http://medialois.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/secondary-research-friday-night-dinner.html
Louis looked into the Textual analysis of Friday Night Dinner. Where she looked into the Mise En Scene within the sitcom , and also the codes and conventions used. This will help massively when we come to produce our own sitcom.

Sam Evans:
http://media-samo.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/analysis-of-website.html Sam researched into existing products and looked at the interactive elements that are included in a webpage. Find out that websites use games as interactive elements in their website. As well as chances to watch behide the scene clips of the programmes. Allowing the audience to get more involved within the show. Such as his example he used for fresh meat website , in which their allowed the audience to watch interviews with the stars of the show , by doing this it attracts more viewers , this is something we can incorporate into our website pages.

Summary of whole groups work on Secondary Audience research

Charlotte Maguire:
For this i researched and collected the viewing figures for 4 sitcoms in which the group had analysed, by doing this i found out which sitcoms were most popular. From my research it shows that the most popular programmes are the inbetweener’s and IT crowd. I found out this was to do with the target audience as inbetweeners is shown on E4 , their target audience being 15-35, and this programme is about teenagers , and the target audience watching is many teenagers , therefore its important what channel you show your programme on and the target audience who watch then channel , having a big impact on your viewing figures. This is something we need to think about when creating our own programme, and also this that it must fit with the E4 target audience age. As all for these concepts affects the viewing figures.

Geogrie Field:
http://mediageorgie.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/secondary-research-social-networking.html Geogrie researched into the audience views and comments on social networking websites and IMDB. she found out the target audiences of two E4 sitcoms and learnt what the general views from the audience. She also found out how fan pages find out what the audience think of specific characters through asking questions, therefore by her doing this research it will help when coming to create our sitcom characters as well a website.

Louis Brown:
http://medialois.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/results-from-secondary-research-on.html
Louis looked at reviews of sitcoms. she found out some interesting stuff by doing this such as the stereotypes within sitcoms help the audience to understand the story . Also people get bored of sitcoms all being the same such as the narratives and character , something we need to be careful about when creating ours. She also found out the jokes included need to be modern.

Summary of whole groups work for Primary Audience research

Primary Audience:

Charlotte Maguire:
Me and Sam both planned the focus group and split it into 2 sections. Section one being that with gave our 7 people taking part a question sheet , which had 7 questions on in which they had to fill out. The second section being we shown them 4 clips in which they answered questions about the clips they had watched. Therefore me and Sam split the results into 2, therefore my results are from the first sheet we gave them , which 7 questions. I display my results in graphs and then summarised the evidence I found. We asked a group of 7 teenagers as this fits in well with our target audience, we did this to find out what our audience want from a sitcom. I also filmed the focus group.

Geogrie Field:
http://mediageorgie.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/primary-research-questionnaire-results.html
Geogrie created surveys to find out what the target  audience like and dislike about sitcoms , she also found out what they would like in a new sitcom. By her doing this we were able to find out what audiences wanted. She then linked this to the codes and conventions of a sitcom.

Louis created a poll asking people what they like about sitcoms to be centered around. By doing this she was able to find out people like sitcoms to be based round friends. therefore this will help to group when creating of a narrative and also the characters involved.

Sam Evans:
Sam also created and held the focus group , he then analysed the second half of the questions we asked in the focus group. By doing this it helped the group to get a better understand of what the audience find funny , aswell as the narrative most popular with our target audience.

Overall summary into Audience Research

Overall summary:

Firstly by doing research into viewing figures, I was able to get an understanding about which sitcom’s are most popular with our target audience. I was able to find this out through a focus group , in which we asked 10 people ages 16 to 18 , points there liked about sitcoms , such as stereotypes , narrative structure. Therefore when creating our programme we will include all these elements. And from that i was able to understand why they were popular. The narrative and also the channel in which it was shown on. As the inbetweeners was very popular as it is shown on a channel for 15-25 year old’s (E4) and the programme Is based round 18 to 20 years olds , showing that people of this age enjoy watching sitcom’s based around people of the same age as them. Therefore for own programme we shall use the same aged cast as are target audience , ranging from 15 to 25. Also from my focus group, i found out what teenagers want from a sitcom. I found out that in fact they do prefer to watch sitcom’s in which the characters are around the same age as them, in which they can then relate to. They also liked the funniness of sitcom’s and how it relates to everyday life. Therefore when we create our sitcom we need to make sure we keep the reality of our narrative and make sure the audience can relate to our programme.

Overall summary of Product Research

Overall summary of Product research:

Through secondary research I found out the structure of a narrative was a theory created by Vladimir Propp and that this theory is important in a sitcom as it brings structure to the programme , giving it a clear narrative flow making it easy for the audience to follow. By researching the codes and conventions of a sitcom I feel I have a better understand of what is used to builds a sitcom and the elements needed to make a successful one. Such as it needs to include ‘stock characters’ and stereotypes in which the audience can relate to. The more variety of characters the wider target audience can relate to those characters. Also the ideological meanings of a sitcom need to fit within the genre such as the closure at the end of every sitcom, and also the problems they tackle. The good thing about sitcom’s is there can tackle serious problems in a light- hearted way. This is what makes sitcoms so popular and unique. Which we could incorporate into our own sitcom. Therefore by doing primary research I was able to test what I had found out, by actually comparing the narratives of sitcom’s to see if actually they do follow a certain pattern. From our analysis’s of comparing narratives in a sitcom I found out they do follow patterns. Which have just became natural to the viewers brain, as over the years they have got use to the patterns in which sitcoms follow, starting with everyday life and finishing with everything back to how it was. As an audience member we don’t think about sitcom’s to be in a certain order as we have never even thought about them; however after breaking it down into 5 sections I found all sitcoms follow a narrative structure. So through doing research I have found out the structure, and code and conventions needed for a sitcom , and backed it up with primary research supporting my evidence.

Focus group question , video and results (primary audience)

After coming up with many questions for our focus group , me and sam put our ideas together and came up with the following questions. We shown four clips of sitcoms , and gave then the following questions to answer about the clips.:

CLIP 1

Question one: What did you enjoy about the clip you just watched?

Question two: What didn't you enjoy about the clip you just watched?

Question three: What was your reaction to the clip? E.g. laughed, cried etc?

CLIP 2

Question one: What did you enjoy about the clip you just watched?

Question two: What didn't you enjoy about the clip you just watched?

Question three: What was your reaction to the clip? E.g. laughed, cried etc?

CLIP 3

Question one: What did you enjoy about the clip you just watched?

Question two: What didn't you enjoy about the clip you just watched?

Question three: What was your reaction to the clip? E.g. laughed, cried etc?

 CLIP 4

Question one: What did you enjoy about the clip you just watched?

Question two: What didn't you enjoy about the clip you just watched?

Question three: What was your reaction to the clip? E.g. laughed, cried etc?

We then asked them to answer the following questions about sitcoms in genral:

Question one: Why do you watch Sit-coms?

Question two: What attracts you to watch a Sit-com?

Question three: What is your favorite Sit-com and why?

Question four: What part of Sit-com appeals to you and why?

Question five: What do you think makes a good Sit-com?

Question 6: What characters do you enjoy to watch when watching a sit-com?

Question 7: Finally, if you were to create your own Sit-com what characters would you create and why?

From these questions: we hope to find out what attracts the audience to a sitcom, therefore we can add this into our own sitcom , including characters, narrative and location.

Focus group results

Me and Sam both planned the focus group and split it into 2 sections. Section one being that with gave our 7 people taking part a question sheet , which had 7 questions on in which they had to fill out. The second section being we shown them 4 clips in which they answered questions about the clips they had watched. Therefore me and Sam split the results into 2, therefore my results are from the first sheet we gave them , which 7 questions. I will display my results in graphs and then summary the evidence I have found. We asked a group of 7 teenagers as this fits in well with our target audience, we did this to find out what our audience want from a sitcom.

Question one:

<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->

Summary: The overall response we got from this question was “because they are funny” everyone but two wrote this, showing that the reason people watch sitcoms is for the comedy, therefore our sitcom must include humour to be success with our target audience.

Question 2

Summary: our second question was to find out what it actually is that attracts the audience to sitcom over any other genres, we found out it was the humor  This is a unique thing about sitcoms they tackle serious issues in a light hearted way , therefore the audience enjoy the entertainment rather then the story being told.

Question 3

Summary: We then asked what their favorite was, by doing this we could get an understanding of the narrative and structure line they like. Friends and the Big Bang theory both got the highest votes , both of theses of which our about a group of friends , this is something to consider when creating our sitcom , maybe we could create it around a group of friends , as this seems most popular to our target audience.

Question 4

Summary: The part that appealed most to our target audience was the characters e.g. the stereotypes and the variety in characters, this again is great in a sitcom as we can include as many stereotypes and ‘stock’ characters as we want. So when creating our sitcom it is important we think carefully about our characters.

Question 5

Summary: One thing we thought was important was what the audience felt made a good sitcom; it was interesting to find out that as well as the humor they thought the relatable characters were important , therefore when creating our sitcom we need to make sure our characters fit and relate to the audience. Therefore it would be a great idea to involve teenagers into our sitcom.

Question 6

Summary: We wanted to find out what stereotypes they liked best therefore we could incorporate this into our sitcom, turns out they like weird, geeky characters as they are more enjoyable to watch, and also find them funny. Therefore we could have a geek character in our sitcom, which the audience will enjoy to watch.

Question 7
Summary: The last question was very broad , as we hoped get some ideas from the audience , the most popular was a flat in America , however we can not do this because of production expenses and for practical reasons. They also mentioned small setting, such as locations, such as college or work m which I think would work really well in our sitcom.

Overall Summary of research:

Overall I felt this was a great idea creating a focus group and collecting research from our target audience, as we now have a better understanding into what our target audience want. This will help when creating a sitcom suited to them. Such as the characters they like, and what attracts them to sitcom in which we can add to our sitcom making it a great success to the audience.

Summary of Narratives for Chosen Sitcoms (Primary product)

Summary of narratives

As a group we all focused on one Sitcom each, and from this we wrote down the narrative of the episode we analysed. We can decode media through the use of a narrative.
Tzetan Todorov realised a structure in a narrative of a story, the narrative is split into five sections:

  1. Equilibrium
  2. Disruption
  3. Recognition
  4. Attempt to repair
  5. New/return to equilibrium

Through analysing 4 sitcoms, we found patterns in each story line.
We felt it was important to research into the narrative of a Sitcom, as it we help us when creating our own 2 minute clip, which should follow and look the same as other Sitcoms to portray to the audience the genre we have chosen, is a Sitcom.

Equilibrium of each Sitcom:

Might Boosh:   The opening scene begins with the characters in the home , one using a hookah pipe. Two of them in as they have just come back from their own gig. The two characters then drive to a further location, negatively discussing the success of their gig.
Inbetweeners: The programme starts with an introduction to the character of will , and his everyday life as he walks through the school , which then goes to a clip of the four boys in the car on the way to sixth form.
The IT Crowd: Roy, Moss and Jen are all at work having a normal day.
Fresh Meat: The flat mates are sitting around the table eating breakfast and talking.

The pattern we found was each episode starts with everyday life, through people getting ready for work or college, or even the characters at work. Each Sitcom starts of very normal and simple. A state of peace/ normality.

Disruption in each Sitcom:

Mighty Boosh: Following the characters terrible gig, with people throwing rubbish into their house , the two characters head to the black lake. The characters turn up at pub and are told to go fishing. Vince then is very successful when catching the fish, unlike his friend. The friend then tells Vince to go back to the pub and leave him to go fishing by himself. Vince then begins to tell a ghost story and states “Black Lake”. The customers and pub staff then tell Vince that there is ‘ghost’ call ‘old Gregg’ that comes out when the moon is out on the lake.
Inbetweeners: There is fashion show being held for charity; however there is not enough models for the show. Will does not agree with the concept of a fashion show.
The IT Crowd: After Roy and Moss go for lunch, the way that they have to go to get work is blocked off, so they decide to have the rest of the day off. As well as that a secret party has been planned for the IT department.
Fresh Meat: Vod learns she is going to be kicked out of uni. JP realises his dad’s funeral is on the same day as his DJ spot. Josie starts binge drinking and sleeping around which angers Kingley. Oregon invites Tony to stay, much to Vod’s annoyance it, the two of them argue about it. Howard finds an embarrassing video of Paul, which JP sends to everyone. Kingsley and Josie argue over dinner. JP’s slot is given to someone else, and Ralph claims that he has paid for the whole night himself.

Therefore in the Disruption part it follows the same pattern, as a problem or conflict is introduced to the narrative.

Recognition of Disruption:

Mighty boosh: Howard is abducted by ‘Old Gregg’ while out fishing on ‘Black Lake’ by himself.
Inbetweeners: Will is asked by the head master Mr Gilberts to take part in the fashion show, will refuses to, therefore creating a conflict as the head master makes him take part. Will and the other characters are also asked to take part in the modelling in the show, Simon is asked, however Jay is not, even though he is the only one that wanted too. Will is asked to model with charlotte, Simon models however has a wardrobe malfunction.
The IT Crowd: Moss gets too excited and starts to glare at strangers and steal the grand design DVD’s from the shop in the shopping centre, Roy realises that it was a bad idea to take Moss out of his usual work environment.

Again this follows the same pattern as the disruption has been noticed by the protagonists.

Attempt to Repair:

Mighty Boosh: Vince rings up his friend explaining that Howard has been abducted by a se monster. He therefore gets a submarine into the Lake with Vince and they begin to search for Howard.
Inbetweeners: Will agrees to take part in the fashion show by collecting money, to resolve the conflict. He also models with charlotte; he does this to impress the character of charlotte, in which he is in love with.
The IT Crowd: Roy and Moss head out of the shopping centre, and head back to work.

The characters begin to change, and realise what they need to do to resolve the problem.

New/return to Equilibrium:

Mighty Boosh: Howard is rescued by Vince and his friend in the submarine. They are then seen performing in the pub, which turns into a successful gig. They then drive home discussing their success. However ‘Old Gregg’ is seen on top of the car.
Inbetweeners: Goes back to everyday life, as the four boys go home together, with a voice over of will sum up the days events.
The IT Crowd: The narrative was shown to be resolved at the end of the episode in text.
Fresh Meat: Vod appeals her expulsion from uni. They all accompany JP to his dad’s funeral. Oregon breaks up with Tony. Howard tells everyone the embarrassing video is of him, to save Paul’s feelings, Vod and Tony make up, Vod tells everyone that JP really paid for the DJ night, and JP stands up to Ralph.

Summary

Therefore the same codes happen at the end of each Sitcom, the Narrative comes together as the conflict is resolved.

I also created a table to present my work in a different way:

Summary of Graph:

Patterns and codes. I underlined the key points in each section, firstly in the equilibrium two of the programmes stared with home and two being work or school. This shows the pattern of a sitcom starts at home or work , therefore our would start at work or school/ college or home depending on the style of sitcom we decided to do rather  ‘work’ sitcom or ‘home’ sitcom.  The disruption, the audience are then made aware of the disruption, however the characters may not, such as the inbetweeners and characters do not yet know of the disruption. Therefore in our sitcom the audience could be aware of the problem before the characters notice it. Recognition: the characters are informed of the problem, either through a different character or being part of the problem themselves, such as Howard in the Mighty Boosh as he gives abducted. The most common one is the character realising and then struggling to come up with a solution. The attempt to repair: this is a very clear pattern the ‘hero’ of the show comes up with an idea which will solve the problem and puts it into action. New/return to Equilibrium also follows the same pattern, the characters resolve the problem and go back to everyday life, such as the Inbetweeners and Mighty Boosh as they are seen leaving in car, ready for another episode with a new problem. One thing to think about is the uses of a voice over such as the Inbetweeners were they use Will the ‘ hero’ of the sitcom to sum up the days events this might be a good way to put closure to the episode. The sitcom also ends with a end to the story , so the audience are felt feeling happy about the outcome , as it’s a light-hearted way of dealing will issues giving the audience hope when watching , we need to keep this in mind throughout the whole of our 2 minute video.

Equilibrium
The opening scene begins with the characters in the home , one using a hookah pipe. Two of them in as they have just come back from their own gig. The two characters then drive to a further location, negatively discussing the success of their gig.
The programme starts with an introduction to the character of will , and his everyday life as he walks through the school , which then goes to a clip of the four boys in the car on the way to sixth form.

Moss and Jen are all at work having a normal day.
The flat mates are sitting at home around the table eating breakfast and talking.
Disruption
Following the characters terrible gig, with people throwing rubbish into their house , the two characters head to the black lake.
There is fashion show being held for charity; however there is not enough models for the show. Will does not agree with the concept of a fashion show.
After Roy and Moss go for lunch, the way that they have to go to get work is blocked off, so they decide to have the rest of the day off. As well as that a secret party has been planned for the IT department.

Vod learns she is going to be kicked out of uni.

Recognition of Disruption
Howard is abducted by ‘Old Gregg’ while out fishing on ‘Black Lake’ by himself.
Will is asked by the head master Mr Gilberts to take part in the fashion show, will refuses to, therefore creating a conflict as the head master makes him take part. Will and the other characters are also asked to take part in the modelling in the show, Simon is asked, however Jay is not, even though he is the only one that wanted too. Will is asked to model with charlotte, Simon models however has a wardrobe malfunction.

Moss gets too excited and starts to glare at strangers and steal the grand design DVD’s from the shop in the shopping centre, Roy realises that it was a bad idea to take Moss out of his usual work environment.

Attempt to repair Disruption
Vince rings up his friend explaining that Howard has been abducted by a se monster. He therefore gets a submarine into the Lake with Vince and they begin to search for Howard.
Will agrees to take part in the fashion show by collecting money, to resolve the conflict. He also models with charlotte; he does this to impress the character of charlotte, in which he is in love with.

Roy and Moss head out of the shopping centre, and head back to work.

New/return to Equilibrium
Howard is rescued by Vince and his friend in the submarine. They are then seen performing in the pub, which turns into a successful gig. They then drive home discussing their success. However ‘Old Gregg’ is seen on top of the car.
Goes back to everyday life, as the four boys go home together, with a voice over of will sum up the days events.

The narrative was shown to be resolved at the end of the episode in text.

Vod appeals her expulsion from uni. They all accompany JP to his dad’s funeral. Oregon breaks up with Tony. Howard tells everyone the embarrassing video is of him, to save Paul’s feelings, Vod and Tony make up, Vod tells everyone that JP really paid for the DJ night.
